Holiday, Inc. is 50! Way to go Ladies! Let’s
take a glance back to 1955 when the original owners-Ruby West Twitty,
Dorothy
Haas Myers, and Donna Bea Feore opened the doors of the Holiday.
The first location on Old Shell Road was the first retail shop
in Spring Hill and the first clothing shop for Ladies and Children
in the area owned by women. Holiday was opened with the concept
of specializing in fine women’s and children’s clothing
and accessories, personally selected for their customers. This
was years before the suburban malls were established.
People drove from Jackson, Brewton, Grove Hill, and Fairhope, Alabama and from
Hattiesburg, Mississippi as they continue to do today. Choosing an outfit at
the Holiday is fond memory for many.
Mrs. Feore, Mrs. Myers, and Mrs. Twitty were very forward thinking women of
their generation. They had another great idea---Holiday Place! In 1980, in
order to create an area where customers could walk from store to store with
convenience, Holiday, Inc. moved just up the street to its present location---4513
Old Shell Road. It is quiet a picturesque setting under the Oaks in Old Spring
Hill. Today, the shops of Holiday Place host events such as “Christmas
on the Hill” and “Bridal Affair”.
In 1985, Nancy Gibson Brock, Perry Feore Stewart, and Cornelia Zieman Feore
became the next generation of owners at Holiday, Inc. they have committed to
provide a “friendly” casual atmosphere and a “tempting supply
of clothes” in the words of former employee Jolane Edwards. The second
generation owners are still providing contemporary fashions for women and children.
Times have changed. However. Being able “to drop in, catch the latest
news, and shop for all occasions” has stayed the same.
Thank you all for 50 wonderful year and we look forward to the next 50 “On
The Hill"! |
